how important are they?

how important are your parents to you? would you ever put yourself before them?

all my life, i've been taught to take care of those before me. if they don't have enough money to use, i'll just work harder to give them a better life.

i actually heard of a few grandchildren have working income of at least RM4K per month but during chinese new year, collected RM25 per person or per couple to a total of RM100 and give their grandmother telling her, "we couldn't find benedictine dom because it's chor yee (2nd day of cny) today and the shops are closed". they must be thinking that the grandmother doesn't know anything because she very well knows that shops are opened... plus she lived in kl city... not some kampung village.

when i heard that story, i felt the disappointment in that grandmother's voice because the grandchildren couldn't even give her an actual gift instead, asking her to go out and buy it herself. she can't drive! and also, that they with their big houses have to share to buy a bottle of dom. sigh....

and i heard of another son telling his parents to "san fu" a little so that he and his wife can have a better life in the future. what is that? i thought and thought about it and i can't understand the logic behind that. perhaps, i've been lucky in the sense that i do not need to worry about my parents financially. but i know that if the need arises, i'll be there for them....
